Most open houses are on Saturdays, so not really a good plan for spring break.

I bet you learn more about a school from visiting when they're in session, sitting in on a class, and taking a regular tour than from a Saturday open house.

Yet to be on a college tour when they let you sit in on a class.

I'm just a middle school parent for now, but i remember sitting in on classes during my own college tours.

Most schools do tours during the week. We are doing 8 during spring break. In fact Saturday is tough. The school we are visiting on Saturday only has a tour but no info session and the admissions office isn't open. Quite a few we are looking at don't do Saturday tours. We did find that BC, being a good catholic college, doesn't do tours from Thursday - Monday over Easter but plenty of others are open.

PP which schools are you looking at that only do Saturday tours?

My DD got in early admission to Rutgers & UNC-Charlotte. Both have their upcoming open houses on Saturday. We're also visiting Drexel (Sat) and UMD-CP (they do have weekday options). This is not to say that you can't do campus tours, so OP might still find it a valuable use of spring break time. I think I would rather visit the schools when students are actually there though.

Of the 8 we are visiting over our spring break only one is on break. I would have skipped that one except it is near another school we are visiting so doesn't make sense to do a special trip later. Also depends how far afield you are looking. Easier to do the special Saturday sessions if they are close by. More expensive if each one is going to require a flight/overnight stay. My DC also has sports commitments most Saturdays so it makes the Saturday visits tough. We've been trying to use the random days off school for the DC/VA/PA schools. Will also have to do a couple this summer (trip to Chicago, maybe CA, for example) because we just can't fit it in during the school year.

Congrats to your daughter.
