The length of time is really variable. It depends on how many breaks your child takes, whether they chit chat with the tester, etc.
Both of my kids took about 2 hours each. Very different scores so I'm not sure there is a correlation between time and score. |

I give the WISC (psychologist).
There are 10 required subtests, and another 5 which are not usually given but might be included, either to gain more information or if a subtest is "spoiled" and can't be used (picture a kid insisting s/he must use the bathroom, or the fire alarm going off, midtest). It usually takes me between 1 1/2 and 2 hours, including a 10 minute break. Longer for chatty kids, or kids who are off-task a lot and need to be redirected. Longer for kids who are slower workers/thinkers, because only three of the ten subtests have time limits, and I let kids keep going if they are still thinking. Also longer for young, gifted kids, because the starting point is determined by age but the ending point is determined by getting 4 or 5 questions in a row wrong. A young gifted kid will end up being asked every single question! And, for the PP who mentioned extended norms, those are for scoring, not extra questions. If a child, particularly at the younger end of the age range, gets a very high raw score (# correct), you may need to go the the extended norms to translate it into a "scaled score" which is higher than 19. Finally, I don't think it EVER took 60 minutes for me to give a WISC, unless the child was earning very low scores or totally uncooperative! |

Interesting. My daughter took the WISC and I remember being surprised because it only took about an hour in total (perhaps a _bit_ more). She scored very well on two (math and verbal) and average on two (memory and speed); overall was in the low 130's I think so it wasn't a case of low scores. She's a VERY chatty kid normally. |
| We parent referred with a WISC full scale of 137 (VCI 146). I'm going to ask to see the GBRS. What GBRS do you think DC needs with those scores? |
