What do you do with the butts of sandwich bread?

We give them to the dogs... Not sure why, just always have.

I eat them. They're the most delicious part!

My MIL says the same-- but she holds off eating them until the loaf is gone so the next slice doesn't get stale. It took me a while to realize we were not eating the end slice for different reasons (as a kid I really didn't like it-- now I don't mind so much).

I keep a bag of bread ends in the freezer. Every couple of weeks, I grind them up to make bread crumbs.

I give those to my dog.

Anonymous wrote:We buy high fiber whole wheat bread for sandwiches. My kids eat it willingly in sandwich form, but don't like the ends of the bread. I freeze them then make a big bread pudding with eggs, milk, maple syrup. It's tasty (at least DH and I think so) but the kids don't like it. So now what do I do with the butts of the bread loaf? Bread crumbs? I've never made them and we don't use them often. Ideas??? Thanks!

So right now, you use them to make a yummy treat that you and your husband like, but the kids don't?

I'm failing to see the problem here. Keep doing just what you're doing!

I usually eat them but, failing that, I freeze them and make breakfast casserole with them.

I eat them (my husband does not), or if I want to give them to the kids, the use them for sandwiches and have the crust end on the "inside" of the sandwich. The kids don't seem to notice.

Toast and make "soldiers" for soft boiled eggs British style. Really toasted and use with hummus. Croutons for salad.

DH and I eat them toasted, or I make croutons with them.

It's my kids favorite part. I have to tell them not to take it first, so the bread doesn't dry out.

Toss them. Yuck.
