Misoprostol for missed miscarriage - how long does it take to work?

What I recall of waking up from my D&C was an enormous sense of relief and comfort that this nightmarish part of the miscarriage was over -- and gratitude for the anesthesia that meant I didn't have to experience the D&C consciously.

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow, and am sending all good wishes for your recovery and for a happier outcome in the future.

I felt an enormous sense of relief after my D&C, too. The week between finding no HB at ultrasound and the D&C was the worst week of my life.

I think this med is prescribed differently in EU?

I have to take 2 tables, twice a day (with approx 12 hours between) for 5 days to ensure everything 'keeps moving' and have been told maybe nothing will start until after the first 24hrs. She said the chance of needing a D&C after taking a complete course is less than 5%. Fingers crossed!

I have now taken 800mg of this medicine four days in a row. The first day orally and then the next three vaginally. Nothing happened... finallyon the fourth day I started spotting(friday) but by Monday I wasnt spotting. Now its Tuesday and I am on my fifth dose. Vaginally again. I have some spotting but am praying it gets worse. I really want this over already. (Missed mc 10 w 3d) sac only. Has anyone else taken it this many times? Have you finally had success? I cant afford a d and c.

I spent all night at the ER and got prescribed some pain meds. Took a dose before leaving the hospital and got home around 4:30am. The next morning some cramping started again. I was on my way to see the doctor to see how we were going to proceed since I still had most of the sac inside and according the hospital's ultrasound, it wasn't budging. I ended up in the hospital with the worst pain of my life. I got an IV with dilaudid being injected into it about every hour for 4 hours. I finally left the ER around 4pm. They gave me cytotec orally. I slept like a baby all after noon until 6am the next morning. I just got back from my doctors office. I got another ultra sound and pelvic exam, and it seems everything is out. I will still bleed for about a week but the cramping is done. My advice is to have pain meds on hand so that you can get started on pain management while you wait at the ER.

By the way I didn't clear this up in my previous posting. Cytotec= misoprostol.

I took the medicine twice. Each time it took 24 hours before anything happened except cramping. The first time, it was "successful," as in there was a lot of bleeding and tissue passing. The second time, there was only a little. But after TWO MONTHS of mostly continuous, light bleeding and tissue passing, I wished I had been forceful with the GW docs and demanded a D&C right away.

GW doctors are conservative because they have an Asherman syndrome specialist, and know that D&C is really only for emergencies.

Repeated doses of misoprostol, on the other hand, are safe and effective. They should have offered you that, not let you go for two months!
