| Sorry, OP but I feel really bad for your cats. Do your best to create lots of high-up areas for them, like a PP suggested. Maybe even go crazy and put some shelves up where they can traverse the house without running into the dog. You owe them. |
On my parents' farm I remember that some of the cats knew that if they just sat down and ignored the dog the dog wouldn't find it fun to chase. My previous dog liked cats, but when I took in older cats from a terminally ill relative the cats did not like the dog. One hid for most of 2 months, I had started by putting the cats in a room where I switched the door with a screen door, and she would only come out when nobody was in the room to eat and use her litter box. But eventually both cats left the room, that cat hid a lot for a year or more but by the time she passed away she had spent a couple of years sleeping with the dog on my bed--and she would go up to the dog and ask for a bath (this dog REALLY liked cats). The other cat took a few swipes at the dog and it was months before the dog would go anywhere hear that cat. Now I have a high energy 18 month old husky. I took care of a cat for awhile and it was chase chase all the time, but in this case the cat also seemed to enjoy taunting the dog (like hanging off the edge of a table and taking a swipe when the dog walked by. Gates didn't work--soon as the dog saw the cat jump over anything that had kept her confined (at the time, for housebreaking reasons) before she immediately sailed over the partition. |
| Just noticed this is from 2013! The good old days...Op gives us an update! Is your dog still chasing the cats? |
