Something other than HYP

This is probably true for a subset of people. For others the medals around the prize pig, the bragging rights, are pretty important. Big 3 mentality aside, HYP aren't the only schools in the country worth anything (and my husband went to Harvard and I went to Columbia btw). I do think that they are still a ticket to great connections and prospects though. The old boys network lives.

And these medals and bragging rights are not imaginary, no matter whether you think they're justified. When DC got into a top ivy I was amazed at the people who said I must feel validated as a parent. Huh? DC did the work and got in, not me!

agree with 2 previous pps. When our kid got into Ivy -- people said that same thing to husband and me -- we said -- we're going to be clear here...neither of us could have ever gotten into an Ivy. We didn't even crack 1000 on the old SAT.
