furminator-Does it Really Work

Yep.

I have one for my cats. It gets the undercoat on them but not the top layer of fur. I use it in combination with 2 other brushes. I use a rubber one (made by Kong I think), that has the big "bristles" that massage and do a GREAT job at getting the top coat hairs. They seem to keep coming off with it, I eventually stop brushing once it doesn't produce as many hairs. Then I use the furminator, it gets the undercoat and I just do a few gentle passes on the sides and back of the body and then neck area. You have to be careful not to press too hard or "brush" too much with this one. Then I use a soft bristle brush to help get random stray hairs that are loose on their coat, then use my hands for a few 'petting" brushes to get the last stuff off. One of my cats is short haired but has lots of coarse hairs that causes her to need brushing at least once a week. The other is a short/medium hair with a few longer hairs, he could go a bit longer without brushing if it wasn't for the longer hairs that start to stay on me.
