No. They are not doing Little Explores at this location.

We signed up for Petworth camp for a couple weeks last year but got into our kid's daycare so went there instead. They have the spray park but the rec center bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. Was also worried because I have seen some pretty lax supervision and sanitary standards even at 'nice' rec camp locations like Friendship Heights. I was excited for my kid to meet some neighbors and play at the spray park and felt a little bit guilty for not using it. Then I heard from a friend whose kid got heatstroke at the Petworth camp the first week. I figure we'll enjoy the spray park on the weekends and leave the DC Rec camp spots to folks who really need them.

Does anyone know if the online registration will let you sign up your kid for two different camps during the same week? The camp I want is near the end of the staggered registration schedule, and I'm worried that if I wait for it and don't get in, I'll be screwed. Thinking about signing up for a backup camp then cancelling it later. (I know, not fair to others but it's DPR's fault for setting it up like this... I know they don't keep waitlists, but do they let people take cancelled spots?)

THIS is why I'm really not looking forward to the process this year. I'm in the same boat. And the fact that they don't keep waitlists is really difficult. My plan is to camp out at 4am in front of the building, and if I'm not first in line, have my wife do the online registration at 10am when it opens, and we'll be in touch about whoever gets in first. And I'm not even 100% sure I want to enroll my kid for the summer, I just want to keep it as an option until some of the smaller, local, less costly camps open registration.

Congrats to you lucky people who were able to get into Little Explorers Friendship Rec. Full by 10:02am. I added three sessions to my cart, only have them sold out by the time I got to my cart to purchase. Darn.

I know!!! How is that possible? Insanity! We had the same issue

Some Friendship sessions are now open - go for it!!

They are sold out already!! nahhh

They are all open! Like PP said, I think they open spots in waves - maybe the 10:30 wave just opened? Basically, you need to sit on the page and hit refresh over and over until your spot opens.

Got into Friendship by being 1st in line this morning at the offices

Parent #7 in line this morning didn't get into Friendship

That is crazy and totally affirms my decision to do online and not risk getting standing in line. I was monitoring Friendship today, and spots were open well after 10:30 (though closed briefly off and on).

This morning a friend got to DPR offices at 8:30am - and was 3rd in line

We got spots at friendship by one of us going to the office and the other sitting by the computer at home as back up. Staff at DPR office very relaxed, but if you're in the first 3-4 people you are dealt with simultaneously at 10am. Very relieved - and aware that not everyone is able to take the morning off work and drive across town to sort out camp places!

I am not sure what DPR is doing this year. I am not sure if they are doing 1 or 2 locations and am not sure of the locations.

Apart from the language component, were the kids properly supervised? And what kind of activities did they do?

Thanks!
