Cathi Cohen's In Step Therapy

Anonymous
My DS started in group therapy but after several incidences of verbal outbursts, we (group leader and myself/DH) decided that it was unproductive, not only to DS biut to the group as a whole. I would give the group a try. Your DC may respond well to this setting. If individual treatment is necessary, it will become apparent over time. However, if learning social skills is not your primary goal and behavioral management is, then perhaps individual therapy may be better. I guess it depends what is driving the behavioral problems. My DS needs to be taught individually how to handle his behavioral meltdowns before knowing how to forge proper friendships and/or social interactions.
