MTFHR, heparin, and delivery

Anonymous
I have another question to throw into the mix on this topic. I lost my first baby in the second trimester and was subsequently diagnosed with homozygous MTHFR. I am once again pregnant and on folgard (folic acid + vitamin B), baby aspirin and lovenox. During my pre-conception consultation my peri recommended using lovenox until 20 weeks but now that I am pg they are saying to stay on until 30+ weeks. Has anyone else been told they will stop lovenox at that time? I'm a little scared to stop when a clot could still occur...

Interesting discussion... I have Factor V Leiden (hetero) and had a DVT in my leg 5 years ago (while on BCP), so I've been on lovenox and baby aspirin since the beginning or my pregnancy. I'm also at Gtown Hospital, but am seeing Dr Colie (OB) and Dr Broome (hem). So far the plan is to induce 7-10 days prior to due date so I can go off lovenox for 24 hours. When I asked Dr Broome what happens if I go into labor before that, she said the only complication is that the anesthesiologist might refuse to give an epidural depending on when I last took lovenox (12-16 hours prior, she could *maybe* convince him, not any more recent than that). To the person who was wondering about c-section complications, Dr Broome told me there is no additional risk for lovenox + c-section (meaning, no reason not to), only delivery complication at all would be lack of an epidural (which I, personally, was kind of counting on). But this discussion is actually the first I've heard of the switching to heparin thing. Has anyone out there actually done it?
