| I'm American, but I lived a number of years in England. Many of my friends there LOVE American football. Then again they also love cricket and snooker, so take that for whatever it's worth. |
| The redskins cowboys game had 68% of all tv in the Washington DC area and 46% of the viewers. |
| I hate the Olympics. Sooo boring. |
| What is the average IQ of the diehard sports fan? |
|
I fucking despise football.
There's a particularly cold corner in my heart reserved for Football and it's fans. Not all of them are immature and clannish rubes but sadly this is the truly the average fan I have met over the years. Plus, a lot of hard core drunks love to use watching football as an excuse to just get polluted and run their mouth about stupid shit. I don't think most professional athletes are geniuses, but the guys playing football are particularly trashy, dumb and violent. Most stories I hear about guys beating on their old lady, killing someone, date rape, fighting dogs, etc: FOOTBALL Let's not forget Sandusky.... |

27 years of being ignored, having to listen to crowd noise and those blow hard talking heads. God, by the time January rolls around I am literally ready to scream. I get it...ultimately it is meaningless so people can get attached to the sport and vent emotions that way instead of dealing with their anxiety and boredom directly. My husband in other respects is great so I tolerate it but it gets harder every year.

| We don't usually watch football and neither DS nor DD are ostracized about that. But they do seem to be savvy enough to roll with conversations about things they don't care deeply about for purposes of social interaction. Perhaps your child could just roll with the flow more ... Ie , announcing to other kids who watch football that you don't watch it because it is stupid and causes concussive syndrome is a position one can take, but you can't really be surprised if that is viewed as combative ,,, |
| Soccer way more boring. |
|
It does not matter what you like you should teach you child about all kinds of things. Nah ... Just let him be ostracized .. Good plan.
My standard thought... Your raising a child...it's not about you. |
how out-of-touch are you? at least the last 5 presidents have all been "die-hard" sports fans. sports replaces wars from the first X thousand years of recorded history. it is in man's DNA. the smartest and richest senior partners at my law firm can recite the stats of every baseball player on their favorite team. Nate Silver is pretty smart, made his bones writing about baseball on an incredibly high level. |
| We said "no" to DS who begged for a year to do football, because of all the brain injuries. We're not big football fans anyway, but we took the kids to a UMD game and it was actually pretty fun. So my advice would be, skip the Skins and try college football, it's much more real. |
| I hate the whole culture around football- the idolatry of the players and the game. Maybe it's because I am from a big city and went to a HS without a football team that I don't get it. When I hear stories of whole towns living and dying by the fortunes of their team all I can think iof is how provincial and sad. And then there is the status of the players in those towns or at big colleges. It seems that no rules apply to those guys and the heavens part for them just because they play. It's just so dumb. |

If you're looking for evidence of the devolution of the American adult over the last few decades, you need look no further than to compare NFL broadcasts from the 70s to broadcasts today. At least back in the day the sport was targeted to an adult audience. Now it looks like the cartoons we outgrew by the age of 13. "Look! An exploding football playing robot! Look! A football spaceship!" (Don't even get me started on the imbecilic commercials which football fans seem to enjoy more than the games themselves). This shit makes the professional wrestling broadcasts of the 80s look like "Masterpiece Theatre".
We've become a nation of overgrown, immature 6 year olds, and our public spectacles reflect that. |
| I don't understand why football has to be forced down our throats? I do not mind what others spend time doing, but i choose not too.then i don't have cable and there isn't anything but football on ! I have about 8 channels you think that i might be able to find some else on.but NO. I HATE FOOTBALL!!!! MICHELLE DAVIDSON |
| Another hater here! Glad to see I have some company -woohoo. Used to live down South where it is REALLY the ONLY thing there was to talk about with anyone. I was single at the time and HATED dating specifically because I could not find ANY man who was interested in anything else!!! Sorry I shouldn't say merely interested, I should say obsessed. And to PP's point about exploding robots - it is all SO STUPID!! I think football is the main reason I packed up and moved!!!!! |
