I can not believe any one would write this. We all have issues from our child hood, the person that wrote this seems to have a lot of issues. She/he is lacking compassion. Wonder what happend that caused that. You may never get over what happen to you, you were a innocent child. but going to therepy will help you learn to deal with the emotional pain easielr. Good luck. Maybe you should send your therapist name to the person who told you to grow up, sounds like they may need it.

OP and others who suffer from PTSD: have you heard of EMDR? It's a therapy that was developed for Vietnam vets suffering from PTSD but has been proven to be effective for all kinds of stress disorders or entrenched addictions. The idea behind it is that your brain gets stuck in the fight or flight mode and you need help integrating the rational part of your brain back into the thought process when you encounter a situation that brings on the PTSD. It's using your own mind to knock it out of the hyper-survival mode. A patient will watch lights move back and forth across a horizontal plane or listen to sounds from hand-held devices while thinking about the event. Now, some people have had success in one session. But it's tough and scary and it took me about three months to get the courage to venture into the abyss (and I have a fantastic therapist). I suffered for almost 17 years, and I can honestly say that EMDR transformed my life.

Lots of practitioners in DC area. If you need a specific name, happy to provide a few. Good luck.
