Can you explain more about what a super doubles sale is please? and how often this type of sale happens?

Aldi. It's cash only (or food stamps) so if you have to charge your groceries it's not an option, but it's about 1/2 the price of safeway or giant. Plently of options for cereal, cookies, granola bars, etc for the kids. [code]

No, this is incorrect. Aldi takes debit cards. I use mine there once a week. Like the OP, I am not poor, but noticed that a ridiculous amount of money was going to my gorcery bill every month and let's face it my 2 and 6 yr olds have no clue if the yogurt raisins are from Aldi or Giant, but there is a $3 difference in price. I LOVE Aldi, and do most of my shopping there, but there are certain items I cannot get there or still prefer the brand name of--Tide for instance.

I buy milk at Costco. It's still in a gallon jug, but cheaper than regular grocery stores.

Even when factoring in your membership?

They double coupons valued $2 and under. Meaning a $2 dollar coupon is worth $4 and if it's for an item like Neosporin for instance which is on sale this week for $3.99 it would be free. This is just one example, super doubles occur every month for the first six months of the year and then Aug, Sept, and Nov after that.

+1. Plus this week is double coupons to $2. There's also a $5 off coupon every week in the Washington Post ad (but not in the ad in the store.

Also, Giant has a 30 cents a gallon off coupon in its ad this week.

HT really does have some amazing deals.
They'll frequently have buy 2 get 3 free deals.
If you sign up for the E-Vic you get even more deals on top of that.

Everywhere is cheaper than Safeway. It is the most expensive of the grocery stores, except for Whole Foods.

Their prices must be regional. I live in McLean and the Giant is almost always more expensive than Safeway.

Target has great everyday prices but sales aren't big. Use coupons! Harris teeter is doubling this week up to $2 face value. I am no extreme couponer but I do take advantage of these kinds of promotions and will look at cvs and rite aid circulars to get their free items. I would never pay for toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, deodorant and cold medicines can be bought 80% less so I keep us well stocked. I do overspend on what is important to me but I always stock up when things are on sale. Giant is cheaper but many stores have old produce so that isn't a cost savings. Walmart is a headache and the one in Germantown is so gross.

Just look at circulars and stock up. It takes some time but some web sites do it for you and it easy. Get a cheap newspaper subscription on weekends to get the coupons.

I don't understand how Safeway gets away with its mediocre produce and high prices.

I agree with Harris Teeter, but why don't we have any in MD?

We get a lot of non-produce groceries at Target and agree that they have good prices. They don't have good produce or fruit though. I got some bananas there last week and they turned brown in two days. I"m going to use them for banana bread so it's a complete waste of money.
