Only for those with good reading comprehension skills.

This survey is somewhat useless htis year because of so few responses. Does anyone have a general sense of whether applications are up, down, or flat?

Definitely up judging from the school tours we gave (a well known school in the NW)

I am wondering if everyone knows what it is. It may need to be re-introduced

Also up at our smaller independent in MD.

Here is the relevant part of the intro from last year's version (also available from the link in the OP).

Sam2 wrote:I created a short survey so people applying to schools can share information with each other about how many schools (and which ones) they are applying to. The survey contains just three questions (grade, number of schools, names of schools). All responses are anonymous, and there is no published cross-reference that might allow others to decipher which particular array of schools anyone applied to. If you want to see what the results will look like before responding, you should be able to click on the response link to see the results. (I seeded the survey with a few fake responses which I will remove later as real responses arrive.)

Please respond only once with all your information. Please respond only if you are applying to schools during this admissions cycle. Please don't litter the survey with fake responses, since that just wastes everyone's time. And please recognize that the responses people post here represent only a small sliver of the applicant pool, so while you may be able to draw some information from the response numbers, use that information with caution.

... Also, if people are interested, I will post another survey form in March to summarize admissions results.

+1. Applications seem to be up judging from the number of people who visited our school's open houses. I also heard there were larger than normal groups for the playdates.

Makes sense that applications are up at all the independent schools; the population has exploded all over the metro area and publics are packed to the gills. The fact that independent schools are not expanding just makes this process even more competitive/tougher, I think. More applicants, same number of spaces. Lovely.

I heard applications were slow and then picked up right before the deadlines. Speculation was that the Fiscal Cliff idiocy was holding people back.

For some reason I interpreted 2012-2013 applications as meaning people applying to enroll for the 2012-2013 school year not the 2012-2013 application cycle. So thank you for your utterly obnoxious response, it actually ended up being helpful to me. Sorry to disappoint you.

Sorry to offend your gentle sensibilities, but I stand by my critique of your reading comprehension skills.

I agree. You're absolutely right. I read it quickly and I should have paid more attention before posting and wasting people's time. Still, you are a small and petty person. Due to your superior reading comprehension skills, I am confident you won't accidentally misread that as small and petite.

Will both of you please stop bickering?

Let me guess. Your kids go to Sidwell. I think I see you once a week.
