how long to wait after miscarriage?

I just had a missed miscarriage myself, hence my interest in this thread. Yes, if you're in the middle of a miscarriage, don't have sex, which could introduce infection. Once you stop bleeding, ask your OB/midwife to check your HCG and for a sonogram to make sure everything came out.

My midwife and surgeon (for D&C) both said to wait until after first cycle. Not because of dating pregnancy, but so the lining can regrow. Obviously, not important in every case, but I've also heard of a second miscarriage after conceiving right away, because the lining wasn't thick enough. Can't think of any reason to wait two cycles, though.
