Can't afford true addition, thinking about a sunroom, then converting it. Anyone done this?

This is an odd comment. At least builders do actual, tangible work.

Lawyers do not do tangible work? Use an unlicensed contractor who gets (God forbid) hurt on your home site and then, come back to tell us how you could have defended your estate without an attorney. Maybe you don't understand what lawyers do or you hate the way America has become so litigious? I agree attorneys charge a great deal and that is annoying. I also know we can't do the work of a highly trained carpenter and a carpenter can't do the work of a highly trained attorney. Each profession makes a killing - as they should.
