Adventure vacation for "wanna be" adverturers with young-ish kids?

I would second Acadia - great place Good hikes. Coordinated small children would be plenty challenged by the Beehive hike if you dare. If not old enough, cold water swimming, whale watching, Thunder Hole, biking the carriage roads, and walking around Jordan Pond (some fun parts where you have to climb on logs, etc). Plus really fun and tacky mini golf and great food.
