Holiday traditions that don't involve gifts?

We went to see Handel’s Messiah at the Kennedy Center! It was wonderful and a festive experience. There’s a sing along, but we like the performance.

Our favorite outing is driving to a picturesque Christmas tree farm and taking the time to walk there, choosing and cutting our own tree. Our oldest is an adult and it's still our family tradition, since he's on his Thankgiving college break when we go. We bring the dog, who loves it. We bring hot choc in a thermos. This year it was FREEZING. One year when the kids were little there was 3+ inches of snow on the ground. Another year we nearly skidded off the road because of black ice.

We used to attend the Brookside garden of lights, but our teens are over it now. When they were little it was a HUGE hit, though. There's music and food and drink inside too, and a delightful model train set in their greenhouse... consult their calendar for those days.
