are in-car "entertainment systems" worth it? what about navigation?

I don't think I'll ever buy another DVD. I thought car companies would be ahead of this curve, not behind. I'd put in charging stations all over for the kids to play their iPads and things (for long road trips, of course).

love love love our factory nav/entertainment system. it's all built-in so you don't have a cheezy little GPS gizmo sitting on your dash or DVD players strapped to head rests. Even though it's 8 years old now it still works just fine (we can even plug in our iPhones via the AUX input to play music or movies). and we just updated our nav DVDs so that's up-to-date too.

backup cameras should be mandatory on all vehicles now - esp large minivan/SUVs!!

Overpriced - get a tablet for each kid for the same price. The GPS gets outdated and many don't have the good traffic reports. Get one for $200. Now, I would spend the money for a back up camera.

We have both and like it.

1. Our nav has traffic on it. Worth every penny as we drive up 95 a few times a year. I know way before hand if I should get off and take an alt route across the George Washington Bridge.

2. Our children are younger and I like having control of what they are watching through the DVD system. For our system, there is a screen for the 3rd row and a screen for the 2nd row and each can have a different movie. This works nice for us for long trips (we take at least 4 trips a year that are 6 hours each way).

FYI - our rule is no movies unless we have luggage.
