I understand your frustration, but take issue with your allegation that AirTran is "treating pregnant people poorly".
Air Tran is treating you the same way they treat all of their other customers. The fact that you are pregnant has nothing to do with it. While it would be nice if they would give you an extension, they shouldn't have to change their normal policies because of your pregnancy... and if they choose not to, I would not blame them. Being pregnant is one of potentially hundreds of "legitimate" excuses as to why you can't use your voucher for a certain period. But its no more or less worthy than a working mom who can't use it because she's working. Or a cancer patient who feels too ill to travel. Or a grieving widow who doesn't feel up to traveling. Or an impoverished mother who can't afford to take a trip THIS month, but might have the necessary funds in 6 months. You see where this would get AirTran... don't you? |
DOT has a consumer affairs office. |
OP- you were not treated poorly as "pregnant person." Let's save this gripe for when it actually means something. |
Report it to the Magical Ministry of Treating Pregnant Women Properly. They will send someone out asap to investigate. |
I am glad I am not the only grown woman reading Harry Potter. (I trust that you are a grown woman, and not a troll, sockpoppet, Amy, bored college student. . .I spend way too much time here.) |
Yes, grown woman. I could not resist. I feel OP's pain but at the same time, I mean, "Where do you complain about the poor treatment of pregnant women?".... I mean I could not resist. |
I feel your frustration.
I booked tickets with United this past weekend and needed to go to the airport to pick them up. When I got there, the agent said that there was an error on the reservation and could not ticket these for me. I explained to the agent that based on the reservation that I made on Friday, I had booked other items such as hotels and other peoples airlines tickets. She had no power to do anything for me. She connected me to reservations and I attempted to explain the situation to the reservation agent and the person would not listen to me. The United representative who I was working with trying to get the ticket got on the phone and they would not listen to her either. I believe the reservation agents are now trained to just say no. Fortunately, the person at the counter who was trying to help me was able to navigate the system for me so that they could fix the error. And I used to fly all the time and considered myself pretty savy for getting what I wanted from the airlines. OK - enough of my venting. As others had recommended I would write a letter to customer service. I would focus on the point that you were told that you would be able to extend the voucher for 1 year and that when you attempted to do that it was denied. Further, I would write the letter in a tone that you have flown this airline in the past and would like to continue doing so. Give them the opportunity to do something for you. I also write letters using the words "Imagine my surprise when ......" This helps me write from a point of view focused on providing a solution. Good luck - oh - and as others have stated, I would not position it as a pregnancy issue. |
