Mortgage options when one spouse has a good credit score and the other does not

We did this. My DH's credit score was in the 600's, mine is excellent. I could qualify for the mortgage based on my income alone. DH wasn't that happy about the situation but we really didn't have much choice if we wanted to get the morgtage and buy the house we wanted. Title is in both of our names.

Did this too. My DH had the bad credit (10 years ago... Happy ending is that it's now excellent and we just bought with both of us on the loan together).

Aren't assets acquired during a marriage generally split 50/50 according most states' divorce law?
