I was born and raised in a "3rd world country" and volunteered in an orphanage - Ask me anything

I am sure you are from Brazil.

Did Americans or other foreigners come to adopt children from the orphanage? Did local people? What led to children being in the orphanage?

The system is extremely corrupt and a lot of people benefit from it so adoptions are very rare and take a long time to happen. Our country was closed to international adoption when I was there. I don't know what the situation is now.

Most of the children were there because the parents were neglectful or taken to jail and the relatives were not interested in raising them. Every once in a while we'd get a newborn baby with the umbilical cord still attached. A volunteer on call would take the child to the hospital to be checked on and once cleared the nurses would name him/her and we'd take them back.

Ready,
Set,
Go!

I say, "Rock on, PP!"

When Dad came to the US from Italy, his hometown was practically a third world, as he barely had a floor to walk on. He "made it" and was STILL THE BEST SUPPORTER of the underdog in this country. God rest his soul.

Lesa than 200. And the point was to guess based on the answers to the questions but seems like people are not interested. I don't blame you. You all have heat, water and will stuff yourselves with food in a few days. You'll spend money on things your kids don't need or will forget very soon and will keep living your life of working like a horse and wasting the money on useless stuff.

Have fun. Who cares about what goes on somewhere else, right?

Who cares about interacting with a self absorbed twit who is trying to make herself feel important by playing an assinine guessing game on an anonymous forum, you mean. But surely we all appreciate being painted with such a broad brush.

And you haven't actually said much of interest, frankly.

Sounds like you were from a wealthy family even though it was a developing country. The wealthy in developing countries do far better than many on other more developed countries.
