Cost to fill in pool?

We live in CCDC and have a pool. We certainly didn't want the work or safety issues of a pool with an infant and toddler but now that we have it, it's awesome.

It's totally fenced and kids learn fast what the rules are (shallow end etc) and how to swim. It takes care of itself now that it has a saline system-it was hella work when it was chlorine. We have it open 5 months a year and sometimes use the heat to extend the season beyond. Our yard is still big.

I like that we are the social house for our single and married (with kids) friends... it's awesome.

Just have an open mind and don't buy the hype of any potential issues... we'd planned to fill it but we are so glad we didn't.

Nice to hear this We bought a house with a pool and we wondering about the same.

Weird post. The pool is not an appendage of the house. You can love the house and hate the pool, especially around here where having a pool is kind of silly.

why is it silly, the summers are long and hot as hell, nothing is better on a hot humid day than to be in the water. If you have a private pool, it must be very nice.

Silly because this isn't Florida or California. There are many many months where pools sit dormant. There are public pool options aplenty. And (at least inside the Beltway) land is not plentiful enough that it makes sense to take up so much of the backyard with something that can only be used a few months of the year.

I lived in SoCal. It's not warm there year around to use the pool all the time. Even in Florida there are colder months you would not want to go into the water. Besides there are beaches to be enjoyed in these areas. While it is pleasant to use the pool in SoCal weather, DC summers pretty much require you to sit in the water if you want to be outside to cool off. If you have a pool you are not as compelled to get the heck out of the city for the summer or have to pay to go to the beach all the time and get stuck in traffic every weekend.

There are no places in the continental US you can enjoy the pool all year around, you'd have to go to Hawaii or US Virgin Islands. It gets cold in CA and SW and even Florida in the winter unless you heat your pool. If you heat your pool here, you could enjoy it May through Oct at least and I'd argue that some people would do this without any heating.
