Preschool --thinking ahead, wait list now?

I am also looking for a full day church-based preschool or nursery school in Silver Spring for my child who turned 3 in October. I want a smaller more intimate setting as I have already tried larger daycare centers from when he turned 2-1/2, where he seems to get lost and there is little academic focus. He already is learning to read little 2-3 letter words, counts to 20, knows colors, numbers, etc thanks to my mom's in-home daycare which by the way currently has 2 infant openings. I am debating taking him back to mom full-time but I was concerned that she doesn't have other kids his age at her daycare. The other child is 18 months old. I would appreciate any advice or recommendations.
