Car suggestion for family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids)

I would get a Highlander, Pilot or the New 2013 Pathfinder.

I have a Chevy Traverse, love it. I keep the third row seat down and use the space in the back unless I'm taking along a 5th or 6th person. DH has a Kia Optima, he loves it, and the trunk is huuuuuge. DH is 6' and has no problem with headroom or leg room in his Optima and he has the toddler rear facing behind his drivers seat.

We're in the same boat except #2 is due in April and DH is 6'4". We are looking into the Prius V -- we don't live in a climate that requires AWD, or we'd be considering Subarus. I don't see that we'll have other kids with us during the preschool years, and we don't have family in the area to drive around.

PP here. I should add that we are a 2-car family. OP, it sounds like maybe you have one car? So we could buy another larger car in a few years if it turns out we absolutely need more space.

We love our Mazda3 hatchback. The back is spacious enough that you can fit a small adult in back w/ two carseats, and there's tons of room in the way back for gear and groceries. We're expecting #3, so we just bought a minivan and I'm really not a fan. It is a tank.

With only two kids, any sedan or small SUV would be fine. I don't think you need to think about a minivan or large SUV just yet.

We have 3 kids in a sedan and do just fine.

Another thought on this: When I was very tired with the preschoolers, it was much easier to slide things in and out of the hatchback, than to bend into the trunk, something I never thought about BC.

We have a Highlander hybrid, and it is great for the 4 of us.
