How Often Has Your Child's Teacher Been Absent this Year?

Out of the other four teachers on my grade level:
Two have missed 0 days
One has missed 2 days
One has missed >8 days

And yes, the one who has missed a lot of days has missed them for BS reasons

I work for a DC Charter too. I don't know which one is your school, but... Thank You! When a teacher is absent for BS reasons, and excessively absent at that, it upsets the whole grade level team at my school and it hurts the kids.

Huh? That would be 20 days of vacation leave. They allow a teacher to rack up that much time? Sure it wasn't a family emergency?

Yes, this teacher missed more than 4 wks of school already so far. Vacation plus some other school days. Yes, amazingly they allow a teacher to do that. Yes, I'm positive it wasn't a family emergency according to the letter sent home by her. My DC also said the teacher told the class what a good time she had. How luxurious.

Is your child's teacher a DCPS teacher?

Fact: The DCPS teachers' contract states that only FOUR total days per year can be used for personal or vacation leave. They do not roll over and cannot be banked to say, take a month long vacation w/ accrued time. The other days are sick leave and taking more than 3 consecutive days of sick leave requires a doctor's note. Whether or not your child's principal enforced that I have no idea, but I do know (I am a former DCPS teacher) that's what the official policy is.

Maybe she had personal or medical issues and is simply saying she took a vacation so as not have to air her business... but that's maybe a long shot.
