I didn't write the first comment, but I agree. I live here and lose power all the time, like, this past Thursday - a clear, precipitation-free day. So, no, I don't think it's PEPCO. |
| The transfomer on our block was on fire and I was convinced it'd be days before we had power again. They had us back up and running within hours. Color me impressed. |
Sweetie, it was so quick because no one else had issues. Had anyone else had issues, it would have been days or weeks. |
| Pepco spent a lot of time pruning trees in our neighborhood after the derecho. We lost power for 4 1/2 hours this time. When the power went out, I thought it'd be days, but it came back on at 3 something a.m. Seems like in past storms they waited longer than that just to begin restoration efforts. So, I guess I am giving them some props. |
Same happened to the house behind us (transformer on fire), and PEPCO had a crew out to check it out within the hour (power back about 5 hours later). I think due to the fact that the derecho had already taken down many of the older trees, and that PEPCO had been out pruning for months in the area, we didn't suffer as much at the hands of this storm. |
| The way that PEPCO trimmed trees is going to cause more problems down the line. They cut the leaders off many, many trees. This will slowly kill them only to have them crash down unexpectedly--storm or no storm. |
|
It was luck, not PEPCO:
DC misses the brunt of the storm: http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/sandy-slams-new-york-new-jersey-washington-region-spared-major-devastation/2012/10/30/5eeab77a-222e-11e2-8448-81b1ce7d6978_story.html?hpid=z3 |

You mean that they did their job? The job we pay them for? The job for which we pay among the very highest rates in the nation?
Instead of saying "thank you" it should be "it's about time." And PP is right, DC missed the brunt of the storm. |

For those laughing at Dominion right now, I'll defend my VA power company. The major issue typically is the speed with which power is restored. As of last night there were 200,000 people without power in Virginia. As of 12:30 today that number is already down to 93,000, more than a 50% reduction in less than 24hrs.

lots of hype for us in MD
not so for NY, however |
|
Also, we as a STATE, in Maryland, were SPARED the anguish grief and pain that New Jersey & New York are going through right now. If that had been us, Pepco would have never been able to recover at all. You and I and everyone else, KNOWS that.
|
| I agree. Pepco is still a shitty company, fuelling record profits to their management while gouging the ratepayers. |
+2! Suck it, VA! |
Hm, maybe there are other reasons that people in Virginia don't want to live in Maryland. Very classy way to mock those whose situations are currently worse than your's! Glad to hear that you're doing ok, though. |
+3 look at all the nastiness in the 'Underwhelmed in VA' thread. |
