I'm not following his privacy concerns. What does he fear? Does he shop online? People used to be afraid to do that. I'm not judging, just trying to understand.

LinkedIn is good for another reason. Suppose you are going to apply at the ABC Company. If someone you know knows somebody there, you can try to find out whether or not you would want to work there.
