We have a really smelly old dog and people tell me they can't smell him at all. I know Bath & Body Works is considered kind of lower class, but this is the only product I buy from them!

Who says things like this. Since when was bath & body considered to be lower class?[/quote]

Since they started having the buy three, get two free event.

Ding ding ding. Winner!

We have lots of bathrooms in our house and the family rule, is that one goes upstairs to sh*t in one's own out of the way bathroom. Absolutely no [family] #2's down on the main level!

Like some of the idea above as well.

Not having pets helps.

I don't know if the OP is still checking this thread or if anyone else on DCUM is interested in good home scent stuff, but I'm a huge snob about incense and adore buying it. It makes my apartment smell lovely, but is never overpowering because it's all-natural (and I keep the window open in good weather). I use incense every day for religious purposes and also for meditation, and I quickly learned that anything described as "dipped" was loaded with headache-inducing synthetic fragrances and irritated me so much that it distracted me from prayer and meditation. But the incense I now buy makes my home smell beautiful.

I only buy from a lady called Pam, who runs an online Etsy store called LittleHippieMama. Here is the link to one of her incense products so you get an idea: https://www.etsy.com/listing/89424543/sweet-dreamy-slumbers-artisan-hand-made?ref=related-7

Her stuff is a little pricier than the other incense cones out there, but for the quality she delivers I think it's reasonable - I just pray that she never increases her prices because I already spend way too much!

I don't want to use candles because of the fire hazard (18 month old and pets around), but I've always found the air-wick-type fresheners to be artificial and start out way overpowering, then fade really quickly.

I air my house once a day and I keep it clean. Trash out once or twice a day.

For a freshener I love Caldrea Sea Salt Neroli. Its very light and has a spa/hotel smell to it. http://www.caldrea.com/fragrance/homekeeping/sea-salt-neroli/

Lol, I'm not Pam. I just burned a cone earlier and wanted to talk about it. If it helps I've posted about my incense addiction elsewhere on DCUM.
Okay, Pam

If you can't open windows because of allergies, clean the fabrics in the house. Curtains and drapes. Hand towels in kitchen and bathrooms. Minimize carpets.

If you have an older home run a dehumidifier in the basement. Gets rid of the old house smell.

Fresh air, keep windows open, once in a while I burn essential oils - eucalyptus and lavender, add tea tree oil if we've been sick.
