Al Gore: Obama’s poor debate performance may’ve been because of altitude sickness

How about blaming your candidate who thought he was so good and above it all that all he had to do was show up?

Other than Gore, I haven't heard dems blame his performance on any of this. We are certainly speculating and trying to figure out what the problem was because he just looked out of it. That's not the same as blaming somebody. About 2 minutes in, I was thinking that he didn't feel well or there might be something big going down.

I actually think that Gore's theory is a possibility. Denver is not *in* the mountains, but still a high altitude. It is the mile high city. I go there every year or two and the altitude does weird things. I once passed out within a couple hours of landing. I believe Gore said that Romney had been in town for awhile, and Obama just got there late afternoon.

either that or the republicans drugged him! (Just kidding)

Obama should have sucked a pouch before he went the podium. It was his wedding anniversary, after all

Michelle broke him off an extra sweet piece of sexy before the debate--either that or they had a terrible fight.

But, Romney sucked it dry first, and there was none left. He looked like he was on an upper (Romney that is)--just grining like a creepy clown.

Mitt is always adjusted to the altitude, what with keeping the windows open on his airplane.

I thought it was because the president didn't wear earth tones at the debate....

I don't care what the excuse is, Obama fell down on the job and has been a huge disappointment to all of his loyal supporters, of which I am one. Just because he's Prez doesn't mean he doesn't have to prepare for the debate! Just because he's surrounded by people who are afraid to say no to him, and his poll numbers are up doesn't mean he has any right to sleep through the first debate! If he were sick, he should have postponed it!

Obama's a slacker. He pulls it together at THE VERY END! He will do better in the next debate because of all the criticism. He never gets off his butt until he absolutely has to.

I'm voting for him, but only because Romney is gawdawful. If a moderate Republican (are there any more of those?) were running, I'd seriously consider voting Republican. I'm a lifelong Dem, but Obama's performance in the debate is about on a par with his performance as Prez. The economy? Huh? The man's been half-asleep for four years. He should have put the economy ahead of health care, and he ought to have pulled off health care right away, instead of waiting until (guess what?) the last minute to pull that off.

The romance is over, Barry. Now get back to work!

No, it was because he doesn't have magic Mormon underwear like Romney.

I would have expected something a bit more creative from the guy who invented the Internet.

Because he's never looked that bad, and he does public appearances all the time for which he doesn't have much time to prepare. He was genuinely not himself and I noticed as soon as he was on camera. [/quote]

He has never had to answer any tough questions. The media has backed him since day 1. More attention was paid to Romney bullying a kid in HS than Obama's friendship with Bill Ayers, Tony Rezco & Frank Marshall Davis, to name a few. He is surrounded with yes men who cater to him. His election battle with McCain in 08 was no contest. McCain was not much of a fighter & didn't make Obama work very hard for the win. He was out there on stage with no one to run interference for him. His comment "you may want to go to the next topic" was a cry for help because he was drowning.

Next debate, give Obama a few hours' lead to the location, a teleprompter to help with his opening & closing remarks & let him speak 1st and last on every issue. Maybe then he can win by a nose.
