but that's ok bc you have your kids. Do you park in them when you DONT have your kids?

I parked at the "Family parking" section at Ikea the other night at 8:30, on the theory that (1) the store was about to close; (2) there were a bunch of such spots open; (3) technically I was there with my family (DW) just not all of it; and (4) someone with toddlers or infants shouldn't be out shopping at that time anyway.

Frankly, I think spots for pregnant moms/moms with kids/expecting families are complete and total bullshit. These are not categories of people deserving of privileges that would reduce their walking. These are people who need to walk more.

Heck yes! unless it's the expectant moms space.

Never, but then I'm used to the rule that you never wait for a space, but take the first available that you find and walk. I've often followed another car into a parking lot, parked at the back and made it into the store before the first car while they sat and waited for a "close in" spot. So, for me, parking and walking is normal and I've never felt the need to take the close in spot. I would be mortified if me as an able-bodied person took up a spot for a pregnant woman. And note, I do drive a hybrid. I have no idea what that is about. Are there actually places that have reserved spots for hybrids? I've heard of HOV waiver, but parking spots? Seriously?

I'm sure your hybrid runs on a combination of the sweet smell of your farts and your sense of self satisfaction.

In Germany, they have parking spaces simply "for women"

Feeling bad about your SUV lately? Mixed up about the thread topic?

Refers to the tone of the entire post, not just the hybrid.

It's not a handicap of course, but a lot of women have complications during pregnancy that limit mobility. Don't use the spot if you don't need it. But many pregnant women benefit from them.

But the spaces for people with small children at Ikea are not just closer, but wider so you can park your stroller NEXT to your car when loading/unloading kids instead of BEHIND which is what I usually have to do at other places. I have also had a car park so close to me that I was unable to get my 2 month old, who was in his infant carseat, back into the car on his side. Wider spaces for people with small children would solve that problem.

FWIW, you sound like an asshole.

Then don't use them. Or how about this, we'll shrink you down to the size of a two year old and you can walk across a gigantic Ikea parking lot and tell us how much you like it.

No. To me it is the same as parking in the handicapped spots when you don't have sticker. Just plain rude. But I will totally park in those family spots when I have my kids with me!

+1 I have had careless and rude people practically take my kid out in a parking lot.

Thank you for your completely inane judgment. All of us with infants and toddlers will be sure to take note.

I'd make a wager that you've only been pregnant once.

When you're a couple years older with a toddler in tow, you will understand that the pregnancy "glow" is fleeting.
