| OP -- did your husband get the job? I'm in the same position. My references were checked a month ago, but I have yet to hear anything back. Is this typical of DOJ at this time of year? |
| OP here - not yet. He got a call (after calling human resources several times) saying that they are trying to get approval for the positions and that they hope to know within two weeks. Its been two and a half weeks now but we haven't heard anything.. |
Why on earth would they post positions that have not yet been approved? This process seems crazy. |
| Because they have a hiring freeze and are petitioning for exceptions to said freeze. They want to have someone ready to go if they get the exception. |
So does the approving officer not know that a division/component/office has posted a position and interviewed candidates until a final package is presented? Why wouldn't they only post positions for which exceptions would be made? It seems like a huge waste of DOJ time and money to vet a candidate first, and then see if a position can be found for that candidate. |
| How long has it been taking to get an offer lately under this freeze? |
How long did it take for you to get your offer? |
Have you heard anything yet, OP? |
| Bump. Obviously not the op, although I do hope her husband got the job! I had an interview, and they're hoping to make a decision quickly, but was just curious what other experiences had been. |
| well, there's no longer a hiring freeze, new poster, but DOJ still moves slow as molasses. "quickly" could mean a couple of months. And attempts at "quick" have been known to stretch into many months. |
| Best to proceed as if you will not get the job and put it out of your mind. Then be pleasantly surprised if you do. |
Oooh, ooh, I bet I can win this game! Applied for my job in October 2006, hired in May 2009. |
I've posted a position in this situation because my AAG said something mealy-mouthed like "I'd have to see the applicant to say" when I asked for hiring permission. So I said "so that means I have posting permission?" and the AAG chose not to argue about it. Did eventually get the preferred applicant funded. |
what in the world happened there!?!
