Any other nail biters? Please help me stop!

Me too! I was around 30. It was totally crazy.

I give it up for Lent every year; I always have nice nails for Easter! but I can kick it only occasionally through the rest of the year. You'd think it shouldn't matter if it's Lent or not, if I can do it, I can do it. I know. I feel like I'm constantly in a state of trying to quit.

This thread is great motivation, though. I'm going to put on some strengthened polish right now! (When I've had success, it's been with this stuff. It's the Sally Hansen Miracle-Nail or whatever it's called. It's in a gold bottle.)

I'm 30 and a biter too. The only thing that stops me is knowing I'm going to be in a situation where I need nice nails. After college, I stopped because I was going to be interviewing. Before my wedding I stopped so I would have nice nails for pictures. The exception was when DC was a baby, I stopped because biting when changing diapers is really unappealing ... my suggestion is to look for a new job or have a baby

14:09- this is me exactly (OP). Sometimes I can get them long enough to get myself to the salon and get a manicure (if I can get a gel manicure then I can get them nice and long) but then over about a month I slowly start picking away... I just can't afford the manicures every 2 weeks right now.

09:08- I will take your advice under consideration. My husband would very much like for me to get a new job and get pregnant, and stop chewing my fingers, so I will take your advice under consideration

I hope my story will stop you cold. I was a hard-core nail biter for years and finally (largely) gave it up when I got engaged - something about a pretty ring on a stubby finger. But I continued to bite a little. Recently I must have bitten a little too far and my finger got infected. I didn't think much of it but it blew up. I went to a doctor and they had to drain it. This involved a 3 inch needle going up into my finger from the palm of my hand to numb it, then them making a huge incision down the side of my finger and pulling up the nail. The numbing injection was worse than childbirth and when the numbing wore off, holy holy HOLY shit. Now my nail is turning black and will fall off, and it will be months before my finger looks normal again. I will never EVER bite again.

I think you have just singled-handedly cured my biting.
