Comparing the local all girls schools

I commuted 45 minutes to Stone Ridge for years and got used to it - first by car, then Metro.

It's academically sound and they understand and support young women very, very well. Was happier there than family members were at Visi.

You don't need to do the driving from VA to Stone Ridge. I see their busses every day. There is definitely one that picks up in North Arlington.

Op if you are serious about these schools and your daughters are accepted you should consider moving, maybe to MD but at least to McLean. Your mapquest times don't take the inevitable traffic into consideration. Fairfax to Bethesda is a high traffic route. Being so far away will also impact their friendships outside of school. And you would end up spending 3+ hours a day in the car.

OP, we live in Fairfax and drive our DC to private school in Palisades area (near Georgetown Univ) everyday. I leave at about 7:05-7:10 and get there by 8:00 a.m going Rte 66. You would have a farther trip to go to get to NCS (probably up Foxhall, then across Cathedral Ave to the Cathedral). I would expect your trip would be at least 50-55 minutes (maybe an hour) everyday. We will also be looking at NCS in a few years, so we would also possibly have this commute. Of course, traffic everyday can be different!

Lots of threads on this topic. Lots of great choices, all with unique personalities. Good luck finding the right fit for your DD.

Commute times are what you make them. You have to be somewhere so you might a s well be in the car, and if you have your child with you, what better time for connecting, talking, asking abut their day, listening to music or even a book aloud together? We live in northern Va and drive to MD to school. its not bad b/c you've got the beltway and don't have to go through DC. leave early enough (7:00) and the traffic is not backed up yet. Many of these schools are worth the drive! You'll figure it out. Best of luck.

You could also look at St Agnes in Alexandria, or consider waiting until 9th for Madeira. It can be a day school, part-board, or full-boarding. Plenty of kids stay there during the week b/c the commute is too long and then go home on weekends.
