How do you find a dentist that is honest and won't mess you up

I love my dentist -- Dr Jerry Rich in Fairfax. He's really nice, puts me at ease (and I get anxious at the dentist), and is honest. I had a terrible experience at two different dentists when I lived on the west coast (told I had gum disease and needed expensive cleanings, etc), so I'm very careful about who I pick now.

DH had this happen with a dentist in DC. The guy did all sorts of extra work and we found out later it wasn't necessary. Plus the work he did was shoddy.

I saw a dentist in FAlls Church once who wanted to do all sorts of random things. I went for a second opinion and found out she was not being honest.

Anyway, we found our dentist by asking around. Good luck! It's smart to be careful.

I do agree with the PP that the dentists that really push the whitening treatments, etc are really just looking to make money off if you.
