Sidwell & Maret

Actually, I'd worry more about having connections to get in than a WPPSI in the 80s, esp. with Sidwell.

Maret has a phenomenal Volleyball team that has won the chamionship every year for at least 10 years in a row.
They also have an increasingly good football team as well as tennis teams. Basically every sport at Maret is pretty good, especially when taking into account the size of the school.

Probably a better chance at Maret.

I disagree, Maret may be more competitive to get in than sidwell... Its worth trying to apply to both...

I think that if you like the schools, you should apply. If you don't even apply, then won't you be facing a case of the "what if's" a few months from now? Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Can't say enough for Maret's athletic program -- they are in a smaller league than St. A, Landon, etc., but do quite well in their own league, particularly in football, baseball, volleyball, and softball. And the best thing about it is that most kids get a chance to play sports extensively in high school, even those who wouldn't even make the team at other schools. If you have a kid that is probably not slated for professional or even college play, they will get a much richer sports experience at Maret. And if they are gifted, they will be heroes, and go on to play in the best colleges. All the coaches are outstanding, both as experts in the sport and as mentors.

Maret harder to get into than Sidwell? REALLY?

PP may be referring to the fact that Maret has, I believe, 20 spots in K as opposed to Sidwell's 48 (including the 22 they take in pre-K).

Maret is more difficult to get in than Sidwell because it is a smaller school. On the other hand, they are more open to different learners. If you want your child to go to one of these schools, apply. I don't see the downside of applying.

In reading the posts for the past two days, it appears there's a Maret "booster" (who I think is a student) posting on a lot of the threads. Even more than the Yu Ying booster!

It's a board member.

Exactly. These people are *parents,* not students. Is it really plausible that high school kids are reading this thing? There was someone recently saying "I graduated from Maret (or was it GDS, cant remember) last year and yada yada..."

Are we really to believe a freshman who's off at college is spending time monitoring the DCUM board?

All hail the Sock Puppets! It's working soooooo well. You've got us right in the palm of your foot.

Is the term booster a bad term?

I can't identify the booster posters versus other parents.....

These school threads all seem the same to me--tit for tat on why certain schools are good or better or the best at x, y, and z.

Everyone chooses a school, and then vouches/boasts/"boosts" (funny as a verb) for it. The posts that state, "I am unhappy about my school" are outnumbered 10 to 1 on these boards.

I can't tell who the Maret booster is-- And a Yu Ying booster? That seems silly--most likely several parents posting when asked for feedback.
It seems like some people get offended when people recommend or offer accolades for a school.--Again, I ask why? And then to posit that there are actual students posting on these boards, that seems really far fetched.

To all you school boosters out there: Keep your posts coming! I personally like to hear about your love for schools.

Yes, I have heard that Maret really works hard to embrace academic diversity

Well I heard Maret is full of lots of way-too self-satisfied parents ....

Maret has improved by leaps and bounds in the last fifteen years, but it's still doesn't compare to Sidwell academically. If you want a smaller, more low-key school with more emphasis on arts, it's a great choice. But to pretend it's on par with Sidwell is, well, to pretend.
