Try something like dream dinners, we have been doing it for over 2 years since I was in bed rest with a 2 year old. I do at least 2 a week, pick them up once a month at the store.
They are healthier (whole food/no chemicals) than microwave dinners or carry out and they are less expensive than Whole Foods (the store). My kids and dh love them too, I add in a few easy home made meals during the week and then on the weekends I don't feel guilty at all about getting pizza, Chinese, chipotle, etc since I know we ate healthy all week |

Moby Dick (kebabs if you did not know)
Lebanese Taverna Tandoori chicken, Biryani, vegetable options from an indian place Peruvian chicken |
+1 Moby Dick or Whole Foods |

I like Chipotle. Reduce the rice, skip the tortilla and sour cream, cheese on the side and just a little. No chips!
Big fan of Wegman's sushi, too, but that's not as quick to carry out. |
|
Places that do Rotisserie chicken, whether a chain like Boston Market or one of the smaller Peruvian chicken type places. Near us, we have probably 3-4 single little businesses that do this type of business. You can get the rotisserie chicken, and a bunch of sides that are pretty healthy.

I third Peruvian chicken (SO good) and they have healthy sides like beans and rice.
Can your kids do sushi? Veggie sushi? That would be a healthy take out, especially with some miso soup and edamame. I know Panera Bread has some really healthy options, but not sure if they are open for dinner. Maybe grab during your lunch day? Ditto Au Bon Pain and Corner Bakery. Noodles and Co has whole grain linguine. |
A site I read that recaps shows like Top Chef Masters calls the store "Whole Paycheck." |

There's something online called the Chipotle Calculator if you want to know the calories in your preferred bowl/salad/taco/whatever.
I've struggled with my blood pressure, so I'm a big fan of stuff like frozen veggies in pasta sauce and whatever I can toss into my crockpot in the morning and just let slow cook. |
| What about the foodtrucks downtown. Do any stick around for dinner? |
+1 The tips for making dinner quicker are useful for someone looking for those tips, but I'm with the OP. That's not how I want to spend my very limited time. People who don't really hate cooking might not get those of us who hate even boiling water. I would love to find more and healthier takeout. |
That's what occurred to me too! Guess they don't like it the OP wants to buy take out. I third the suggestion of Moby Dick. They sell fish kabobs that are pretty decent. There's certainly nothing wrong with the bowls from Chipotle. I ask for a minimal amount of rice, black beans, chicken, pico de gallo, no cheese, no sour cream, and extra, extra lettuce and tomatoes. Another suggestion could be take-out from Bacchus. They have a really good grilled chicken kabob that they serve with rice (we buy one per two people). Add a fattousch salad (lettuce, tomato, cukes, toasted pita, green peps and a lemon vinaigrette) or tabbouleh if you kids like parsley and tomatoes and a side of hummus and you have a great meal. You could also try Tandoori chicken from Haandi. |
| 16:14, has Haandi re-opened yet? I called the other day and it just rang and rang. |
| Chipotle - you can do better if you skip the tortilla. See their calorie counter. As the mom, I eat one bowl for 2 or even 3 meals. |

Cava is good for fast healthy meals. All organic and filling salad options. I am talking about the fast-casual places not the sit down restaurants in Clarendon, Capitol Hill and Rockville.
There are the fast casual places in Columbia Heights, Tenlytown and Bethesda. |
Yes - we do the bowl with no rice, just chicken, black beans, onion, guacamole, salsa, corn - you can decide to do cheese or no cheese. Not bad health-wise and their meat is good quality-I know the chicken is antibiotic free and the beef is naturally raised. |
