Calling people by their last names

Anonymous
My 11th grade history teacher called me by my last name. He was such a jerk. I don't know anyone who goes by their last name or calls people by their last name. Military or people with the same first names I understand, other than that it seems forced.

I was always called by my last name until I got married. My maiden name is Quinn.

I've always called one ex by his last name. We're friends. It's because his first name is a common one shared by about 10 of my friends. Quite a few of my friends also go by nicknames or last names, in part because they have common first names, so it distinguishes them. ("Chris WHO?") My circle is just like that. I think guys are more likely to do it than women, in general. I go by my nickname in my circle - it combines my first and last names.

We also do it at my workplace sometimes - I mostly work with men. I'm in Finance.

My friends in college called me by my last name. I have a very unique one, and I think it was meant in a friendly nicknamish way. I liked it. No one since though when I see them, they still exclaim my last name.

DH and I call each other by a wide variety of names each of which includes the other's last name (my maiden name). No reason, def. not team mates or pretending to be marines. LOL. The funny part is that all of a sudden our toddler dd has taken to calling us by any number of those names instead of mommy and daddy. Hilarious.

I am a girl, not athletic, and 85% of my college friends called me by last name -- a lot b/c they thought it was first name when they initially met me. My DH, who I met in college, still calls me by my last name (as does his family) -- when he uses my first name (usually in front of other people) I don't always realize he's talking to me.

Never had a nickname growing up, so I never discouraged being called by my last name (which is rather trendy as a first name these days). I don't refer to myself this way -- you know, during my inner monologues.
