Let's be honest, how much time does your child spend watching TV per day?

Same here, but we probably do 2-2.5 hours of netflix on the weekends.

Every morning for 10 min or so, dd (2.5) gets in our bed and has her milk while DH and I snuggle with her and check email and do whatever we need to mentally prepare to face the day. We also use tv to "wind down" for about 10-20 minutes before naptime and bedtime. During those times, we transition to reading books. This all takes place in our bed and it serves as a great transition to getting dd ready to go to sleep. I'll also turn it on if I need to shower but dd usually loses interest and will play with her toys or the baby while he's in the bouncy seat.

Varies depending on what is going on. Many days lately none, but middle of winter = two hours.

So much for honesty.

This summer we had a newborn in the house and my seven year old watched a TON of tv. We were reading the Harry Potter books and she was allowed to watch the movie only after we read the book. So, once we got through the first one, she watched the movie several times a day until we would get through the next one and repeat with that movie. She watches mainly movies and not tv shows. So during the summer, hours and hours of tv.

Our 4 year old usually watches 40 min in the morning (2 shows), maybe another 20-40 midday depending on what we're doing, and then another 40 minutes in the evening. So about 2 hours most days.

That amounts to about 10 waking hours for other things, which is a-ok with me.

Elementary age.

During the summer, they are allowed to watch TV until I wake up and get a shower. If they wake me by fighting over channels then it goes off. They might watch more depending on the day.

So maybe 3+ hours.

During the school year, they each get to pick a show for after school, so 1-1.5 hours, sometimes more if they watch Dirty Jobs or something similar with my husband.

Average of 8 hours a week, with more on the weekends and less during the week because of sports. Honestly, I don't really care as long as it doesn't get in the way of household tasks or school work. I'll be the first to admit that I love TV and probably follow 7-8 shows during prime tv season. DH and I enjoy watching tv so it doesn't seem fair to tell the kids they can't have any of what we have.

As much as she wants providing that her immediate homework is done, her long term projects are at their proper rate of progress, her chores are done, she has been consistently active, and her behavior has been good. She is 10. Some days it is zero because we are so busy and some days we sit in front of it all day.

Our 8yr old watches 1-2 hours/week max. We let her watch it whenever she wants, but she has developed the habit of reading and playing board games instead of watching TV. We try to set a good example for her and don't watch much ourselves during her waking hours. We have a Wii and Playstation, but no DS, but she rarely wants to play with them because she's not in the habit to. We do take her to Dave and Buster's to play games there so for her it's a special treat.

3.5 year old in average watches 1 hour of TV before dinner on weekdays (gives me 30-45 minutes to cook dinner and do other stuff). On weekends she gets an additional 1.5 hours or so in the mornings. When she is sick she watches about 6 hours a day or more. This summer when she was out of preschool she probably watched closer to 2+ hours a day.

20-30 minutes while we are all getting dressed for work, another half hour before bed.

On weekends it is more like an hour in the morning, 15 minutes before nap and none to half an hour before bed.

If sick, all bets are off and we snuggle all day on the couch watching favorites.
