Yahoo's response:
"David Chalian's statement was inappropriate and does not represent the views of Yahoo!. He has been terminated effective immediately. We have already reached out to the Romney campaign, and we apologize to Mitt Romney, his staff, their supporters and anyone who was offended."

In that interview in which Chris Mathews jumped all over Reince Priebus, Priebus defended Romney's birth certificate joke by saying the campaign needs more levity. I guess that doesn't extend to Yahoo! reporters.

Wishing death upon black people in LA under a hurricane is different then joking about something ludicrous like obama's birth certificate which Obama jokes about himself.

He didn't "wish" anything on anyone. He observed that the Republicans are having a celebration while black people are dying. And in reality, the Republicans are having a celebration while black people are dying. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/26/hurricane-isaac-2012-haiti-death-toll-7_n_1831449.html

Now, he also said that Mitt is "happy" to have this party while people are dying. Obviously the speaker can't know what Mitt is happy about or not happy about.

I think the speaker on the video was probably making a reference to the last Republican administration, which you may recall badly mishandled Hurricane Katrina, leaving folks with the impression that when the loss of life is among blacks, Republicans don't seem to be too terribly concerned about it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIUzLpO1kxI

And now here we are 7 years later almost to the day and the Republicans are having a party while the same largely black cities are being hit by a hurricane and it's not a stretch to say that likely some of those people are going to die. So was it appropriate that the guy got fired for his comment? Absolutely. But he didn't "wish death" upon anyone and he didn't JOKE about people daying. He made a very snide comment which as an individual, Romney does not deserve. But as a party.... the nation remembers.

Why don't you support your characterization of "reaching" with some facts, panty?

A. You keep race alive every time you post a photo of Obama with a bone in his nose or say he looks like a vampire.
B. you are not getting the black vote so it is entirely unnecessary for us to pull tricks in order to get them.

Call back when you start showing you care about black people beyond finding tokens to put on the podium.

what facts do you want?

the comment is no different than the romney's birth certificate flap. sure you can split hairs and come up with shit out your ass to say he wasnt trying to really imply obama wasnt born here but you would be lying. you doing the same thing explaining away the reporter.

i dont play the political game of standing up for bullshit just because my side said or did it. its so much easier and saves much more energy to just see things for what they are. not sure if firing the guy in this instance was warranted, but the comment was petty and dumb coming from a reporter.

us idiots on a message board can "joke" and say stupid stuff like that because its not our line of work i guess, but a reporter cant come out of pocket with comments like that.

I am not the one who compared the drowing comment with the birther comment. I simply responded to someone's (yours?) characterization that the guy was "wishing death" on black people, which is a blatant mischaracterization of his comment. I then explained to you what the comment actually meant, both literally and by implication (Katrina, Republican actions re: Katrina, etc.).

And I agreed that he should have been fired for the comment. It was asinine.

2 interpretations to the report's comment

1) Saying Romney is partying while black people are dying implies that Romney is happy to see dead black people.

2) It ironic that people are having a party and ignoring BLACK people dying.

notice option 1 and 2 use the word BLACK to imply that the GOP is racist and don't value black people's lives. Furthermore the event of people dying in LA is a factual statement where as the birth certificate is not a fact but a ridiculous spectacle that warrants a joke. Note that OBAMA has joked about his birth certificate therefore it is fair game to joke about it.
