As a teacher, I would not recommend starting early for most children. Many younger students struggle with any number of things. Also, many K teachers will recommend retention for reasons of "maturity," so that counts as well. You certainly don't want to risk a retention - that's really traumatic. Also, being the smallest, slowest, least socially aware, last to develop (down the line in 5th or 6th grade), and so on, can have negative effects on a child.
