Dr. Frank E. Chang at Shady Grove Fertility Center (Rockville, MD)

We had Dr Chang before he was at SG and thought he was very good. Had 3 unsuccessful IUIs and then a successful IVF. I felt like he tailored his approach to us and obviously we were happy with the outcome.

He was my doc and got me pregnant on the first try with DE. Very cautious, not a hand-holding, touchy-feely type, more of a "just the facts, ma'am" type, which I was fine with. Once the cycle gets going you barely see your own doc anyway. While I was with him the first nurse I had moved away and was replaced with a nurse that I complained about on here because we mostly communicated by email and she did not write messages in full sentences.

He was not my doctor, but did do one of my scans, and advised me to cancel my IUI cycle based on the number of follicles I had growing. My doctor however felt that given the E2 numbers, it was safe to go ahead. I'm glad she did.

Just want to add, I don't fault him for his caution. He didn't have the bloodwork results. Just saw 7 potential follicles.

I've had Dr. Chang for two successful IVF pregnancies. I was a complicated case - ended up having a genetic blood disorder which he found. I agree with previous posters. 1) He is very clinical. If you need a soft touch, he might not be the right fit. 2) Every patient is different. It's really hard to compare cases because we are all different. 3) Shady Grove is a large practice and the doctors there all consult with one another. So, you are essentially getting many sets of eyes and opinions if you are a difficult case.

I'm am with Dr. Chang as we'll, but I have a nurse at SGF who is nice but seems too laid back and unwilling to go the extra mile. I asked to change and they want to give me a nurse that communicates only via email and is not "warm and fuzzy" (by their own account). Can you tell me her initials. I have to make a decision on a new nurse and at 41 with no uterus I cannot afford to make the wrong choice. Thanks

Got pregnant with dr. Chang on first ivf in 2009. Back with him now for FET. Very informative, spent 40 min with us at consult, very personable to us, cant say enough good things. My nurse, D.J. (initals) is amazing.

I just did my second IVF with SG Annapolis. My dr did both my transfers at Rockville and let me know the first round when he was going to be out of the country for my retrieval but promised he would be following me via his computer so I think they do try to do your procedure if their schedule allows. He's been wonderful and called me many times in the evenings to discuss my case. The drs who did my two retrievals were both nice as well.

Wow. This post is old. I was the 8/22/2012 11:33 poster. I ended up getting pregnant again (first was an ectopic). Second was twins (transferred three) - one ended up being a vanishing twin and 1 stuck. He is now 17 months old. I would go back to Dr. Chang again! He may be very clinical, but he is a good doctor.

I am with him right now but my case is really complicated per him. I did 2 IUI, and failed. My eggs are not growing so he said the last bet is egg donor. I really do not what to do now.

I saw Dr. Chang at age 41 and got pregnant on my second IVF cycle. I had a healthy son and then at 43 a second healthy son by FET. I really loved his clinical need chair because I felt he explained the factors that could affect my odds of success. My whole experience at SGFC was great and I found the staff and Rockville to all be very kind.

* clinical manner, not clinical need chair -- oops.

did he changed protocol for you in 2 cycles?
I was with him for 2 fresh ivf and 1 FET. All failed. He just repeated the protocol for the second cycle.
I moved other clinic and used different protocols in 2 cycles. And got pregnant twice from 2 FET transfers.
