Thanks so much for posting this letter. I was searching for it on the net and here I found it on DCUM!!

Would one use the word "cattiest" if a man had written it? I suppose then it would be one of the nastiest, most sexist letters. Anyhow, nasty or not, many of the charges are independently verifiable, which is all that counts IMO.

Catty because she intersperses "compliments" with criticism, but of course even the compliments are put-downs.

First, why in the world does she keep saying that having a baby with Downs Syndrome is proof she's pro-life. I'm pro-choice, but I personally wouldn't abort a child with Downs. I know several adults with Downs, and I just wouldn't consider terminating a pregnancy because of this.

Anyhow, the letter's author is proof that there are angry, bitter, and nasty people everywhere, not just in DC. And if I want to learn about Sarah Palin, the last person I would go to is a librarian in Alaska.

PP here. Sorry, she's not a librarian. She's a self-proclaimed "housewife" - a term that is irritating enough!

What's wrong with being a housewife?

I see a lot of opinion and persuasion.

So, what makes this any difference from an opinion (or a blog page for that matter) written by a native Wasilia resident like John Doe?

She's married to a political foe of Palin's. She's getting quite a lot of mileage out of it without making clear her partner's stake in the situation. While I'm sure there's some verifiable fact in the letter, it's largely opinion. Some of it is laughable: Coming up, the Wasilla high school point guard scandal! Film at 11!

Have you stopped to consider that all this anti-Palin stuff is

1) sucking the air out of the Obama campaign - they cannot get a word in edgewise for their own supporters being so wrapped up in keeping this pot stirred

2) making Palin into a sympathic figure?

Bless her heart!

I'm the OP. I'm a registered Republican. I've been in a real quandry about who I was going to vote for because while I like McCain, I have not agreed with all of his decisions the last eight years. I had really held out hope he would select a moderate Republican for VP. I was crushed with his selection of Palin. She's everything the Christian rightwing could wish for, but they completely ignored the moderates and undecideds. As if the Christian rightwing was going to vote for Obama? Why do the Republicans have to cater the Christian rightwing and the ultra conservatives? I'm tired of being ignored by the Republican party.

So, I was having a hard time making a decision and McCain made my life much simpler. While I'm not a fan of Obama, I can support Biden. He does know how to open mouth and insert foot, but guess what? I can relate to that -- I can't relate to Hockey Mom.
