I'd say Adrian Fenty has more useful experience running a city with the same number of people for about the same amount of time. |
She does not pretend to be anything she is not ... she represents a set of views that you can either agree with or not. I suspect folks in this area mostly cringe at what she represents ... I don't agree with all her positions, but as someone from a small town originally, she strikes a chord with me as being an authentic voice of the middle class. I can imagine her feeding her kids, pondering a family budget, signing off on homework, pumping her own gas, and heading off to work each day. I'm not saying any of this makes her qualified to be one step from POTUS, but she is an appealing "real" person, as compared with many politicians here inside the beltway. |
You make a very valid point. But the problem is that the rhetoric about "real" a person she is, and how much the average American can relate to her, obscures the fact that there are many Americans whose interests could be materiall adversely affected by the policies adopted by her party, and by her. |
Whether that is a "problem" or not depends on your perspective. This country is very divided on the question, as reflected by the extremely close results of the last two elections. |
How divided the country is, is not relevant to whether certain groups should have the same benefit of the provisions of the constitution that other groups do. This is the same argument that was made before both African-Americans and women were given the same set of full rights as white men. Why should it be any different for gay people. |
I agree with you completely. I am just pointing out that there is a large segment of society out there who do not ... it really highlights how important it is to VOTE. |
Agreed. I am being philosophical, you are being practical. Practicality is what wins election. ![]() |
I like her because she is unashamedly, unapologetically, 100% pro-life - and she doesn't even have to talk about it. Her life and her affiliation with the Feminists for Life organization proves it. I also like her because she is so far outside the gross Washington game, plus she seems very committed to a more limited government, less spending, etc. I think she is weak on experience, though honestly not so far behind Obama...but of course, she's not running for Pres. Certainly McCain/Palin have as much experience as Obama/Biden. After a couple years as VP, I think she'll be totally up to speed - I just have to hope that McCain lasts that long. Prior to her announcement, I was planning on voting for Ron Paul because McCain is just a good 'ole boy, and Obama is a damn socialist who wants to suck away our liberties. She's definitely convinced me to vote for McCain. |
