Palin Married in Aug 1988, Gave Birth 8 Months Later

The evangelicals I know, and I know many, would not turn away in disgust if one of Obama's daughters were pregnant and kept the baby. I'm not sure how many Christians you know well, but I suspect it's not many.

The Republican delegates at the convention don't shape the media coverage of Bristol's pregnancy. The media have not been sympathetic and that coverage is what will determine how most Americans view this. In fact, the media are not only unsympathetic, they're vultures.

You are right on!

A poll:

Black moms: How many times has a stranger asked you if your kids' Dad is "in the picture"?

White moms: Same question.

My prediction is that white moms never hear this question, and black moms hear it a lot. It says everything you need to know about the preconceived notions that folks have about minorities.

I've never been asked that question, though I belong to the demographic you suspect is asked about it. None of my black friends have had that experience either, but then again, we're all professionals and not all that young. Perhaps you are overgeneralizing a little bit. Are you black, BTW?

I'm white, but became a parent at 26. Other mothers at Gymboree and on the playground often asked me if I was married. Not exactly as offensive as "in the picture," but it's effectively asking the same question.

True for many of the blogs, but I think the traditional media has been better. Also, the McCain campaign bears some responsibility. They announced that they will no longer respond to questions about the vetting process and brushed off all kinds of other questions. Campbell Brown simply asked a McCain spokesman to give one example of a decision Palin made regarding the Alaska National Guard (the spokesman had just cited that experience) and he was completely unable. As a result of that "hard questioning", McCain bailed on a planned Larry King appearance. Then, the campaign trots Bristol and Levi out in front of the press.

The McCain campaign is trying to generate sympathy by portraying itself as a victim. Had it properly vetted Palin, the campaign would not be dealing with scandals de jour.

BTW, at least one McCain campaign official didn't get the talking points. According to Campaign Co-Chair Meg Witman, the media has been find and not sexist:

Ironically, when asked if Hillary had been treated fairly, Palin said that she didn't like the whining. Now, the McCain media strategy had devolved to one big whine.

not to hijac -- but i loved campbell brown's interview! it was on CNN.com the other day -- absolutely painful to watch the campaign spokesman not to be able to come up with anything to say that actually answered her question!!!

The care in rural Alaska must be pretty good considering Palin flew all the way back there after her water broke to deliver her 5th child.

Maybe they ask because you are not wearing a ring and not because you are black. Did you ever consider that or are you just on the offense about your color?

Palin did say she didn't like whining. She's not the one whining, is she, though? I saw Whitman speaking. I think she's probably relieved she's not on the ticket! Does she have children, BTW? I think anytime the media ask, as many journalists have, how the candidate will juggle parenthood and campaigning, that's sexist unless it's asked of both men and women. I think some of the traditional media have been better, but not all. Wait a month until the analyses come out from the Project for Excellence in Journalism and some of the other centers. I think we'll see empirical data to quantify my belief that the media have been vultures.

Just to play devil's advocate, because you know I will. . . . You mention that McCain bailed on a Larry King appearance. I agree that he shouldn't have done so. But do you also realize that, in retaliation for the satirical New Yorker cover, the Obama campaign revoked permission for Ryan Lizza to accompany Obama on his overseas tour? It's the same thing. Both sides play this game. The coverage has been so negative that McCain has nothing to lose at this point.

Who are these rude people asking about things that are none of their business? I hope your response enlightened them!

Since turning his campaign over to Rove's evil spawn, McCain has been playing carrot and the stick with the press -- even giving special seats to those who ask the "right" questions. But, with Palin, they've gone into full lockdown mode. Palin definitely has found the keys to Cheney's undisclosed location.

I agree that the Ryan Lizza situation was the same as McCain canceling Larry King. I also thought that was petty and stupid. Plus, I liked the New Yorker cover and would love to have a poster-sized version to put on the wall. The right wing is all atwitter about Sarah and her M-16, but she has nothing on Michelle with an AK-47.

Yup, I think that when White girls do it, it brings out this primal instinct to put a positive spin on it. That is, more White babies to perpetuate the race. If you listen to those nutty ultra right people from places like Idaho, they are in to this White breeding at any cost. Those Nazi's asked young German women to start having babies. This is spooky to me. McCain WILL NOT get my vote. Prior to this I was going to vote for him (since I am in health care). Not worth it.

The thing is that the media can NOT stalk a pregnant White woman. If she has a complication, watch out. That is a given in this country, protect White women so they can reproduce. You get the death penalty for murdering one of them. If you do the same to any other race, it's like the judge slaps you five.

Any stalking will backfire, I know it.

So I guess that makes Obama a hypocrite unless he now support legalization of cocaine and a whole myriad of currently illegal drugs!
