| Get over your 3yo snow flake gt bs , that doesnt happen for a while. |
| what is with all of this 'snowflake' crap? i can only assume it is racial and i'm personally really sick of it. |
+1 not sure it's racial, as I don't know the origin, but it is getting old... |
|
Though of course putting nasty messages on a message board is dumb, I will attempt to divine the angry writer's true intent!
snowflake: metaphor for referring to one's child as singularly talented, as unique as a snowflake. (probably not actually referring to the race of the writer or his or her child as the color of a snowflake, i.e., very pale.) gt: gifted & talented, probably once again a reference to people who believe their children are very, very special. (probably not a reference to Georgetown, which is known to have a high population of high-falutin' people.) |
I agree. Not racial (although I initially considered this) but I think most people use it as: SNOWFLAKE = DELICATE to the point that if extreme protection is not given, it will disentegrate. I'm AA and my SIL treats her kids like snowflakes .

Location. Like my alternative better. Will let it go this week. |
| I'm happy to hear its not racial...its never used in a nice manner, so i have a hard time figuring out exactly what the writer is intending to insult! I have seen this on multiple threads on the schools forum. |
Snowflake poster is back again and super annoying, as always! |
| May turn down slot at IT for 2 rivers; just got a call last week. |
| ITS and Two Rivers seem someone similar (hands-on learning philosophy), don't they? |
Two Rivers is Expeditionary Learning and IT is progressive teaching, but nothing so specific as Expeditionary. The IT approach is outlined on its website: http://www.inspiredteachingschool.org/school/philosophy-and-approach/ "Primary methods of instruction include inquiry-based methods and active learning approaches, where the teacher serves as facilitator and coach to support student learning. Instruction includes an emphasis on social-emotional learning, and classrooms will be student-centered with students working in small collaborative groups, individually, and through child-initiated play." I'd bet PP will make the choice based on commute, not so much philosophy. |
| TR had much higher test scores than IT. |
| TR has been playing this game a lot longer than IT. |
| PP here. Actually, it's been a difficult choice. IT is literally one block from our house, so obviously a great location for us. Expeditionary philosophy seems like it would be a good fit for our DS. But, so does IT's student-centered approach with "child initiated play.". We are still struggling with the decision. |
| Go with IT. I would. The traffic around TR is a PITA . |
