Got news for you, it didn't fall to my wayside! I supported the guy and now I will never forgive him. Speak for yourself! |
There is no way you can blame the Obama camp, for the release of info. The child is 5 months along, it is obvious, and by November it would have be very obvious!
DID MCCAIN REALLY KNOW? |
Teens RARELY have Down's babies. |
Oh my god, it's "moot point." Please. . . . PP, I ran into several Edwards delegates in Denver and, like you, they were furious. And some Hillary supporters were furious. Talk about a jerk. |
Even I admit that its tin-foily. On the other hand, I love a good conspiracy theory. Just for the sake of debate -- I'm not saying I believe this -- would you believe that Rove would distribute flyers attacking his own candidate's family? That sounds irrational, yet he did it. Moreover, it was a successful tactic. Again, just for the sake of argument, consider this: 1) Sarah Palin pregnancy had many unusual details; 2) Bristol Palin was apparently out of school for many months during the time of Sarah's pregnancy; 3) Small towns are the most gossipy places on earth, so people were probably putting two and two together. Then, the McCain campaign starts vetting Palin and discovers: 1) rumors about Trig's maternity; 2) Bristol is pregnant. How unbelievable is it that McCain might turn to Rove or one of Rove's evil spawn who now works for McCain and say, "fix this"? The Rove or Rove spawn reaches into their bag of past successful dirty tricks and pulls out the "attack candidate's family" idea. Kills two birds with one stone. Of course, if as you say, Democratic bloggers ran with it, that's their own stupidly and lack of ethics. Agreed, it unlikely and the simplist theory -- Lefty idiots came up with it themselves -- is probably correct. But, its worth thinking about don't you think? Earlier you wrote something to the effect that spreading this story was similar to spreading the rumors that McCain had a black child. Guess who was behind those rumors? Karl Rove. Maybe the rumors are more alike then you think? |
Yes, he did. Here's a Marc Ambinder story on what he didn't know, and why he probably would have picked her anyway: http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200808u/mccain-palin BTW, Karl Rove thinks Palin was a bad choice indeed. |
It's possible; anything is, after all. But I think it's tin-foily. I know lefty bloggers ran with it (not just Dems but Greens), and yes, that is their own stupidity and lack of ethics. I probably disbelieve it, more than anything, because of three things: (1) Rove dislikes McCain and McCain despises Rove; (2) Rove has said privately that Palin is a stupid choice; and, most important, (3) McCain would simply have chosen someone else rather than take an even bigger risk than he's already taking by having Rove or an evil-spawn-of-Rove try to pull this off. If he just wanted a pro-life woman he'd have gone with Kay Bailey Hutchison. She would have helped shore up the base (though not nearly to the extent Palin does) and she would have appealed to women. McCain wanted the blue-collar union-worker angle and the reform angle too, but he wouldn't have inched out on that limb and then handed a saw to Karl Rove. It just doesn't make sense. Knowing my friend the blogger who had a hand in putting this out there, I think it's more likely stupidity and venom than Karl Rove. But it is certainly an interesting theory, and I wouldn't put anything past Karl Rove. I would certainly believe he'd distribute flyers attacking his own candidate. I do think the history of antipathy between McCain and Rove makes it fairly unlikely, though. I didn't know you loved a good conspiracy theory! |
PS - I love the adjective "tin-foily" and will be using it in the future. |
But Obama's mother was not the running mate for the hypocritical Republican party that advocates abstinence before marriage. Also, Obama's mother comes from a generation when teenagers were not taught about birth control. They just didn't talk about sex. Period. Maybe nobody wants to say it, Republican or not, Sarah Palin et al are white trash. Sorry if that's hard on your ears. |
"White trash" is not a politically correct expression these days, you know. To label someone white trash because their daughter is pregnant seems a bit beyond the pale, too. Obama brought up his mother in regard to this today. He reminded everyone that she was only 18 when she had him; he didn't say she was 3 months pregnant when she married, but it's a fact he doesn't hide or feel ashamed of. Since he says Bristol Palin is off limits, perhaps we should follow his lead. He's right. |
C'mon, this is a very insulting term -- as bad as any of the other ethnic and racial insults out there. As an Obama supporter, I am all in favor of countering Palin based on her stand on the issues but using terms like this is both bigoted and in the end not very effective. Please don't use it. |
Ouch, that hurts my ears. I really don't understand (or appreciate) these white trash/trailer park comments that keep appearing. I would hope that we would be beyond giving special meaning to the marital status of someone's mother. The fact that Obama's mother was unwed when he was conceived doesn't matter -- not because she has an excuse -- but because it doesn't matter. The same for Bristol. Who cares about her marriage status or even her marriage plans? This is almost as bad as Dan Quayle complaining about Murphy Brown. Terms such as redneck and white trash are prejudicial terms that tend to say more about those who use them than those at whom they are directed. |
It would be safe to say that the Palins won't "fit in" here in DC. Let's do them a favor come November, and forget this nightmare. |
Bravo. |
Did anyone catch Bill Bennett blowing his lid on Wolf Blitzer? I agree with his point for the most part and I'm not a fan of Kyra Phillips but suffice it to say emotions are running high on this one, |
