Rosa Parks vs. William H. Farquhar Middle Schools

Farquhar middle school is a great school. My child loved his 3 years there and was challenged academically while at the same time having wonderful after school activities and making friends. His teachers, for the most part, were good (nothing is perfect). We went to the open house this week and the new building (on the same lot) is amazing. My son will miss his time at Farquhar, it is a school with a great sense of community.

I am currently a William H. Farquhar Middle School student, and I have to simply say I went to Rosa Parks and considered it one of the WORST SCHOOLS. I live in a military family, so we move often. Rosa Parks has a really bad reputation in honor roll, school fights,etc.

Teachers like working for the Farquhar principal. It’s a well run place from what I hear. I work at a different (W)middle school and am looking for a new one and the principal matters a lot to me. And Farquhar gets good reports in that area. Anyway, often happy teachers= better, more stable school. Lots of movement will be happening where I work now because people are unhappy.

Rosa Parks is the new building? Did you switch schools names? Farquar has a brand new building, looks great. Rosa Parks is decrepit looking old building. I think both are on par academically. Useless Great schools has Rosa as 9 and Farquar as 8. Ethnic composition tells you why people prefer Rosa, even if it only 10%difference.

Both schools are similar in terms of curriculum and teacher quality. Farquhar takes the nod on facilities. Rosa has performing arts strength while Farquar’s sports are more organized. Teacher ratios in line with other schools. Beefing is always something to watch out for in middle school but I don’t have any intelligence on either school. Recreational drugs are another area to evaluate. It really depends on your comfort around this.

I had to move my student to Farquhar Middle School because my daughter was getting rape threats. As a single mother this stuff is unacceptable.

Former Farquhar principal had a big, multi year scandal recently.

Both schools are pretty average imho.

Mcps is subpar across the board, but they really shine when it comes to crummy middle schools: checked out teachers…some with obvious personality disorders or mental health issues…and a growing number of unruly kids who give zero Fs since they aren’t interested in going to college.

Why would anyone leave Blake for PB or springbrook? Serious question. Bad traffic, bad issues (crime).

I am confused about people calling Farquhar an old school. The building is less than 10 years old.
