What type of shoes for school?

I've found that one of each is sufficient for the year. I do have snow boots and even rain boots, but my kids have yet to wear rain boots. On snowy days, I pack their regular shoe in their backpack.

My dd6 has rain boots and she would wear them in the am to before care and change out of them when she got there to regular shoes, my dh would then bring them home with him so they wouldn't get lost or misplaced during the day. Others would just store them in their locker.

As a side note, I always kept an extra pair of shoes in my dd's locker just in case she needed them.

MCPS does nt allow children to play in the snow at recess so my kids never wear boots to school.

OP here. So some kids don't wear boots to walk to the bus (or walk to school)? I assumed they don't go outside in the snow (b/c then kids would need all their snow gear), but I also assumed snow boots were necessary for getting to and from school. On that note, do kids walk to ES anymore? I'm honestly curious. I know our school has info about bus and carpool line, but I saw nothing about walkers.

Of course kids walk to elementary school but how many depends on what school you are talking about. For example at Bethesda ES most walk to school because its a neighborhood school. On the other hand out in Barnesville no on walks to Monocacy ES because its a rural school and the nearest house is a half mile away and there are no sidewalks.

For K don't buy tie shoes. I volunteered alot in my childs K class and almost all the kids with tie shoes were walking around with them untied.

My son has only worn boots to school a few times when there was a huge snow. He rides the bus and needed them to walk down to the bus stop. In our public school they never go outside in bad weather so you don't really need rain boots. One less thing to get lost!

My kid has been in MCPS for 2 years, and there hasn't been a day with substantial enough snow to need boots that wasn't also a snow day. MCPS closes at the first flakes. You'll want snowboots for playing outside on days OFF school.
