Running shoe suggestion for resuming exercise after long kid-related sedentary period?

I visited my local running store once. They took a look at my fat, middle-aged ass and gave me terrible service. They fitted me in shoes that were both the wrong size and the wrong type. They were very rude. Never again. I did my own research and then found shoes that worked for me.

I have a narrow foot and really like Asics. I've used several different models. People with wider feet have told me that they really like New Balance. I don't like Nike much -- they're narrow, but they wear out quickly.
